Whitworth is in the Borough of Rossendale, Lancashire. It lies immediately north of Rochdale, but it is not within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale or Greater Manchester.

Many addresses in Whitworth use Rochdale as their postal town. This is a postal convention: it helps route mail, but it does not place Whitworth within Rochdale or Greater Manchester.

This is why a Whitworth business may show “Rochdale” in its postal address or Google Business Profile even though its premises are physically in Whitworth.

Whitworth has its own town council. Borough-level services are provided by Rossendale Borough Council, while county-level services are provided by Lancashire County Council.

In short: Whitworth is in Rossendale and Lancashire, immediately beside Rochdale. The postcode helps the post arrive; it does not move the town.
